ANGELIQUE KIDJO
ANGELIQUE KIDJO
Single-mindedly creating a bridge that unites the rhythms and spirits of Africa with the grooves of the New World's African Dia-spora, Angelique Kidjo has once again created an album that explores the music of her homeland (Benin, Africa) in an emotionally compelling manner. Her fifth album, Oremi, which means my friend, is a testament to what Kidjo brings to her music - fresh deep grooves, diva harmonies and sensitive lyrics that link her African heritage to America's soul music. Filled with songs like the reconstruction of Hendrix immortal "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and including guest performer Brandford Marsalis on the saxaphone in "Itche Koutche" and the singing debut of her daughter on the ovely acoustic "Loloye," Oremi enthralls the ear.
